AUTOUR DU MONT-BLANC

Autour du Mont-Blanc is a French event management company based in Chamonix, founder and organizer of UTMB® Mont-Blanc (formerly “Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc®”). Catherine and Michel Poletti are the primary shareholders, co-directors of the company. UTMB® Mont-Blanc has become a global benchmark in trail running, it is the world’s biggest trail running event, driving the sport’s development for the past 17 years.

OC SPORT

Created in 1998, OC Sport is a global sports marketing and events management company specialising in professional sailing and endurance sports including running, trail running, triathlon and amateur cycling. Operating globally from bases in Switzerland, France, UK, China & USA, OC Sport manages competitive teams and athletes, owns and organises sport events and provides consultancy to global brands, host venues and other event organisers. OC Sport’s majority shareholder is Groupe Télégramme (French media group).

UTMB® INTERNATIONAL

UTMB® International is a company created between Autour du Mont-Blanc and OC Sport, whose mission is to develop and commercialize UTMB® franchises around the world. UTMB® International aims to contribute to the creation or development of premium events that are open to everyone, inspired by the model and the high quality standards established by UTMB® Mont-Blanc.

UTMB® GROUP

UTMB® Group is a newco recently born to manage the merger of UTMB® Mont-Blanc and UTMB® International. UTMB® Group mission is to become the undisputed trail running market leader, creating new proposals for athletes and the other stakeholders - both from a sporting and marketing perspective.

Position

UTMB® Group will have to implement a fully integrated marketing, communication and media strategy aiming to develop and manage a global community of athletes, maximize the awareness and the image worldwide, provide traditional and innovative marketing & media returns to the different stakeholders (athletes, teams, sponsors, franchisees, licensees, media, etc.), ensure best practice for all events taking part in the series, and support commercial and new business efforts.

The Company is seeking to appoint a highly experienced Marketing, Communication and Media Director, responsible for setting the marketing, communication and media strategy of the business and for managing the entire cycle of all marketing, communication and media initiatives.

The Marketing, Communication and Media Director will be responsible for managing the UTMB® Group Marketing, Communication and Media team, including (but not limited to) several key agencies/partners which could be appointed in different countries.

The Marketing, Communication and Media Director will work with a high level of autonomy and in coordination with the members of the UTMB® Group Executive Committee of which he will take part. The Marketing, Communication and Media Director will formally report to the Board of Directors during a transition period, and then to the CEO when he/she will have been appointed.

These responsibilities require 100% of a full-time position.

Key Responsibilities as Marketing & Communication Director

- Lead and manage the Marketing & Communication team

- Develop the overall marcomms strategy for existing and future events

- Manage all market studies/researches (athlete profiles, market analysis, etc.)

- Define the marketing offers (content, pricing, etc.)

- Develop and implement the UTMB® brand overall strategy

- Oversee the implementation of the communication strategy, including campaigns, digital marketing and PR

- Coordinate the introduction of a new digital “integrated” platform

- Coordinate the introduction of new transverse services (CRM, UTMB® Live, etc.)

- Coordinate efforts for graphic design, digital imagery, creative videos and materials for all departments

- Support the sales team by providing appropriate marketing tools and materials

- Undertake continuous analysis of competitive environment, new trends

Key Responsibilities as Media Director

- Lead and manage the Media team

- Develop and implement the UTMB® Group media strategy (corporate level)

- Develop and implement the media strategy for existing and future events

- Determine the best media outlet mix for promotional strategies

- Oversee all media related activities

- Negotiate with media partners and close competitive deals

- Guide and coordinate the activities of internal or external media rights team (to be confirmed)

- Guide and coordinate the activities of internal or external press office and media relations team

- Manage media monitoring (PR, campaigns, digital marketing, etc.) and audience research

- Undertake continuous analysis of traditional and new media landscape

Personal Specification

Skills & Experience Required

- Minimum of a 10/12-year experience in sports marketing, communication and media

- Multilingual – perfect English and good French are a must, other additional languages preferred

- Knowledge of international sport event and adventure tourism businesses

- Understanding of trail running principles

- Full alignment with UTMB® core values

- A taste for extensive travels around the world

- He/She will need to be target driven and have a good sense of business

- International experience with team management, budget planning, marcomms plans

- Strong proactivity and creativity

- Flexibility to adapt to multinational and multicultural issues

- Knowledge of all different types of media channels (well-developed network of media preferred)

- Very good familiarity with digital marketing

- Working knowledge of analytics tools (GfK, Nielsen, etc.) and ability to manage and combine data

- Ability to create appealing presentations

- Knowledge of international sport event business

- Strong presentation and communication skills

- Computer skills

- Driving license

Remuneration

The remuneration offered to the Marketing, Communication and Media Director of UTMB® Group will include a full-time job salary and a variable bonus based on team and individual KPIs.
