FROM PROMISE TO IMPACT

GIVING SUSTAINABLE MEANING TO PERFORMANCE

An environmental and social strategy is only valuable through its implementation. Discover how our convictions translate into concrete actions at the heart of our work.

BEYOND SPORT, FOR NATURE :

OUR ROADMAP

Oceans, roads, mountains: our playgrounds are exceptional, but fragile. As creators of sporting experiences, this close connection with nature gives us an absolute responsibility: to evolve our practices to preserve the landscapes that welcome us.

For over a decade, we have been rethinking the organization of our events to reduce our environmental impact and give meaning to performance. This commitment is embodied in our Beyond Sport , for Nature program. Far from being a mere promise, it is a quantified strategic plan, implemented across all our events and structured around two fundamental pillars. At OC Sport, sport is experienced with passion, respect, and commitment. Sport has its own rhythm, and so does nature.

Our actions

Maximize the meaning of our actions

Our events are designed as true platforms for impact. We believe in the power of sport to inspire, unite, and take action far beyond the finish line. This second pillar encompasses our initiatives aimed at generating direct, positive societal and environmental change, such as:

  • Protecting life through the integration of mandatory marine sanctuaries for offshore fleets.

  • The evolution of our sporting regulations to impose gender diversity and promote female performance.

  • Accessibility of our events for wheelchair athletes and social inclusion through volunteering.

  • Financial support and increased visibility for local solidarity associations.

Minimize our carbon footprint

Faced with the climate reality, we act with clarity, relying on a strict scientific methodology.

  • Evaluate : Since 2021, we have been measuring the overall carbon footprint (Scopes 1, 2 and 3) of each of our events in collaboration with the expert firm Carbone 4.

  • Reduce : In line with the Paris Agreement, we are steering a clear decarbonization trajectory. Our objectives: to halve the emissions from our sailing events by 2034 and reduce them by a third for outdoor events by 2030, compared to the 2022 baseline year.

  • Contribute : To take action as closely as possible to our journeys, we financially support the agricultural transition in the regions where we live. With our partner Agoterra, we fund local regenerative agriculture projects capable of sequestering carbon, protecting biodiversity, and revitalizing soils.

Vintage Classroom Redesign

Redesign of a sailing boat class on the Route du Rhum: To register in the Vintage categories, very strict accessibility criteria have been defined, favouring older boats (launched before 2011) and requiring more recent boats to meet eco-design criteria.

Minimiser l'empreinte carbone

Electric vehicle charging station

To support the transition to low-emission mobility and to promote the use of electric vehicles (which emit twice as little GHG on average over their entire life cycle), we have made electric charging stations available directly on the event site.

Pilier Stratégique

1

Minimiser l'empreinte carbone

Carbon trajectory

While measuring our carbon footprint provides an essential overview to target our priority actions, managing our transformation relies on a strict decarbonization trajectory developed with Carbone 4. Inspired by the Paris Agreement, we are committed to reducing our emissions by one third for outdoor activities by 2030, and by half for sailing by 2034.

Minimiser l'empreinte carbone

Partnerships with SNCF

To reduce emissions related to travel during the Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe 2022, we partnered with SNCF to deploy an incentive-based rail service, including customized schedules and preferential fares. Given its effectiveness, this low-carbon alternative for the general public will be offered again for the 2026 edition.

genevetriathlon.jpg

Strategic Pillar

1

Maximiser le sens de nos actions

Promotion and equality in women's sport

We advocate for better representation of female athletes through equitable media coverage and the implementation of full parity in race prize money. These structural commitments actively contribute to valuing women's performance appropriately.

genevetriathlon.jpg

Strategic Pillar

1

Maximiser le sens de nos actions

Carbon footprint measurement

Since mid-2021, we have been measuring the carbon footprint of all our events, using a methodology developed with the carbon accounting consultancy Carbone 4. This measurement allows us to quantify the different greenhouse gas flows of our events, and thus determine the priority decarbonization actions to be implemented.

Support for the association Les Extraordinaires

We support the Les Extraordinaires association through a tailored support program combining visibility and fundraising. This partnership involves selling charity race bibs, providing a stand, and setting up a dedicated entertainment area along the course.

High Impact Action

1

Minimiser l'empreinte carbone

Local and high-end carbon contribution

In addition to our reduction efforts, we have worked with Agoterra on local carbon offset programs in sustainable agriculture, with numerous co-benefits (improved water and air quality, etc.).
We apply the usual approach: calculate, reduce, avoid, offset.

Minimiser l'empreinte carbone

Removal of cargo return

To decarbonize the most famous of transatlantic races, we have officially banned the repatriation of sailboats by cargo ship in the notice of race for the 2026 Route du Rhum. This strong decision eliminates a highly polluting logistics operation by now imposing a return by sea.

Wheelchair racing on the GGM

At the Generali Geneva Marathon, we organize a half-marathon specifically for wheelchair racers. This official event guarantees them an excellent sporting experience on the same course as all other runners.

Cetacean protection zone

Thanks to the study of migratory routes by scientific experts, we have identified cetacean breeding sanctuaries and transformed them into exclusion zones. Directly integrated into skippers' navigation systems, these protected areas are mandatory for the fleet to avoid.

Minimiser l'empreinte carbone

Geolocation-based communication targeting

To limit the environmental impact of participant travel, we focus our communication campaigns exclusively on areas served by low-carbon transportation. This strategic choice of proximity allows us to build a predominantly local participant base.

Strict protection of Natura 2000 areas

Respect for Natura 2000 sites is subject to a rigorous Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process to guarantee the preservation of biodiversity. This scientific work involves the implementation of specific avoidance, mitigation, and monitoring measures. In addition, several dozen dedicated volunteers are mobilized to do everything possible to achieve the "zero degradation" objective.

genevetriathlon.jpg

High Impact Action

1

Minimiser l'empreinte carbone

Restriction of international communications

Aware that a participant's carbon footprint increases with the distance traveled, we have chosen to stop sending re-registration newsletters to participants located outside of Europe. This deliberate limitation of our databases avoids encouraging long-distance international travel.

genevetriathlon.jpg

High Impact Action

1

Minimiser l'empreinte carbone

Design focused on soft mobility

Accessibility by public transport is a key criterion integrated from the initial spatial design phase of our events. We collaborate with local transport operators to create seamless logistical loops directly linking train stations to competition venues.

First transatlantic crossing in mixed doubles

To accelerate the professionalization of female sailors, we have made strict gender parity mandatory on the Transat Paprec. This rule of a 100% mixed crew tangibly promotes women's access to the elite of offshore racing.

Minimiser l'empreinte carbone

Carbon calculator integrated into the inscriptions

We created and funded a module on the Njuko platform that allows each runner to assess the carbon footprint of their journey and make a voluntary climate contribution. This tool was then made available to all other race organizers on the platform.

2

Minimiser l'empreinte carbone

Carpooling tools

To reduce the carbon footprint associated with travel for our participants and spectators, we actively encourage shared mobility. We therefore regularly deploy dedicated carpooling platforms across the various editions of our events.
