The 17th edition of the Generali Geneva Marathon promises to be unique with a new starting site for all the races (excluding Junior and Parent-Child Races). Indeed, after 10 great years in Chêne-Bourg, the departures will be given near the Gare des Eaux-Vive, in the town of Cologny (already well involved in the event for more than 10 years).
A departure close and accessible to all
Participating in the Generali Geneva Marathon must be accessible to everyone, due to the formats offered but also by its location. Located just 1.4km from the finish site, the departures of the 5km by Always, the 10km (Run, Walking and Nordic Walking), the Half-Marathon, the Half Armchair, the Marathon and the Relay Marathon by Core-Lean will be closer to the city center, near the Eaux-Vives station so that participants and accompanying persons can easily access it thanks to the multiple public transport services that serve this area. This new starting site will also make it possible to further limit the ecological impact linked to the transport of participants.
Courses livelier and faster than ever
The routes in the different formats are intended to reflect the beauty of the city of Geneva and its magnificent surrounding countryside. The main distance, the Marathon, will thus offer a more balanced route between town and countryside (around 50% each), will allow a larger audience on the side of the roads and will add musical entertainment for the greatest pleasure of the marathon runners. It is then the only marathon in Switzerland certified by World Athletics, this new route will also allow the elites to qualify for the Olympic Games or validate a national or world record. Also, the overall positive altitude difference of the course will be reduced in order to make it even more “rolling” for the participants. The town of Chêne-Bourg, which has successfully hosted departures for 10 years, will remain strongly involved in the event and will host a relay point and a refueling point.
For the Half-Marathon, the Half-Armchair and the 10km (Run, Walking or Nordic Walking), the courses will be very similar to those of previous years, but will benefit, like the Marathon, from a starting site located near the arrivals.
Finally, on the 5km by Always and to meet participant demand, the course will no longer be a return trip on the quays, but an online route in the same spirit as the other race formats.
12 municipalities in the Canton will be mobilized for this great festive weekend: Cologny, Chêne-Bougeries, Choulex, Meinier, Jussy, Presinge, Puplinge, Thônex, Chêne-Bourg, Collonge-Bellerive, Vandoeuvres and Geneva
As in previous years, the arrivals on Saturday May 6, 2023 (Junior Race, Parent Child Race, 10km and 5km by Always) will be judged on the platforms, and the arrivals on Sunday May 7 (Marathon, Marathon Relais by Core-Lean, Semi -Marathon and Semi Armchair) will always be installed on the magnificent Pont du Mont-Blanc.
