Yoann Richomme, winner of The Solitaire URGO Le Figaro 2016 and Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe 2018 in Class40, will take the helm of Le HUB by OC Sport Figaro Bénéteau 3.
Joining Fabien Delahaye and Benjamin Schwartz, Richomme picks up the torch from long-time partner to OC Sport, Charles Caudrelier who will now take the helm of the giant Maxi Edmond de Rothschild trimaran alongside Franck Cammas.
Caudrelier, who won the last edition of the Volvo Ocean Race at the helm of the OC Sport-managed Dongfeng Race Team, commented: “There is a great energy in Le HUB by OC Sport. The team has managed to put together a great tool for offshore racing. Being welcomed into this structure in recent months has allowed me to focus 100% on performance and being an athlete, without having to worry about the rest.”
He continued: “My career as a sailor has always been linked to the Telegram Group (OC Sport majority shareholders), whose colours I have worn as a young sailor and in recent weeks. If I am today entrusted with the helm of this exceptional boat (Maxi Edmond de Rothschild), it is also because Le Télégramme and OC Sport have trusted me as a skipper of Dongfeng Race Team. I really want to thank them for this and especially Edouard Coudurier (Telegram Group President), for his support.”
For Yoann Richomme, he’ll have little time to settle in with his first solo event of the season under the colours of Le HUB by OC Sport, the Solo Maître CoQ, starting 29thApril. The race will also be the first single-handed race for the new Figaro Bénéteau 3, and alongside Fabien Delahaye (Loubsol) and Benjamin Schwartz (Action Against Hunger), the three skippers of ‘Le HUB’ will be using it to learn as much as they can, as quickly as they can, about the new boats before this summers Solitaire URGO Le Figaro.
Richomme commented: “I am honoured to take the helm from Charles, even if I know that they are not easy boots to fill! For this new season, I am delighted to integrate a structure that corresponds to the way I see racing offshore and that will allow me to interact with sailors like Fabien Delahaye and Benjamin Schwartz. I spent the winter studying this new boat and the desire to return to this exceptional Solitaire was really there. This opportunity that presents itself is a real chance. I know that I am going to align myself in optimal conditions.”
