CIC, a major player in the French banking sector, has strengthened its commitment to offshore sailing by becoming the main partner for the next two editions of the Route du Route-Destination Guadeloupe, to be held in 2022 and 2026.
Already title partner to The Transat CIC until 2024, CIC will reinforce its partnership with race owners and organisers OC Sport Pen Duick by supporting two of the world’s most famous single-handed transatlantic races.
The Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe is a classic, solo transatlantic race, that takes place every four years. The 3,542 nautical mile course from northern Brittany, France to the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe attracts the world’s top ocean racers, with 124 boats taking the start line in 2018 across six different divisions.
CIC now joins the Brittany Region and the City of Saint-Malo as main partners for the next two editions of the race, alongside the Regional Council of Guadeloupe, the exclusive title partner of the event until 2026.
CIC has also confirmed its commitment to The Transat CIC race for the 2024 edition, alongside the major institutional partners of the event, the City of Brest and Brest Métropole. By supporting the two largest, single-handed, multi-class transatlantic races, CIC has reinforced its economic, environmental and social commitment to all players in the nautical sector.
Daniel Baal, Director General of CIC commented: “We are proud to accompany two of the most legendary transatlantic races, those which have created or reinforced the biggest names in ocean racing. This dual sailing partnership with OC Sport Pen Duick highlights the entrepreneurial spirit, technological performance and collective strength which are the core values of CIC.”
Hervé Favre, President of OC Sport Pen Duick, and organiser of The Transat CIC and of the Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe said: “That CIC is joining us for these two major races is a great source of pride for us as organisers. A long-term partner is excellent news for the ocean racing ecosystem. It is also a huge guarantee of confidence in the future. This collaboration, born in the midst of a health storm, promises to be auspicious for the future.”
A leading bank in France and abroad, and the bank of choice for one in three companies in France, CIC has a network of nearly 1,900 branches and 20,000 employees in France. Internationally, CIC is present in 34 countries. Heavily involved in the sporting world, CIC supports many regional sports events and associations.
