The first edition of the Haute Route amateur bike race from Geneva to Nice is behind us – the toughest and highest cyclosportive in Europe earned its stripes in convincing fashion. Riders, organisers, volunteers, journalists, local authorities and host venues have some amazing memories and stories of this extraordinary human and sporting story across the Alps on two wheels.

A week ago tomorrow the first edition of the Haute Route came to a superb end on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, France as 300 riders crossed the finish line in extraordinary style and a wonderful atmosphere. It was a moment to be savored for the riders as they realised their dreams of completing the toughest and highest cyclosportive in Europe. The first ever edition of the Haute Route finished today on the Promenade des Anglais, Nice, in front of hundreds of spectators and families and friends of the 300 riders.
The 730km ride from Geneva to Nice, staged over seven days, has proven itself to be the hardest and highest cyclosportive in Europe. The riders bravely took on 15 cols and climbed a total of 17,000m – for many it has taken blood, sweat and tears to arrive in Nice, but it has been worth all the effort.
