First run in 1960, this iconic event was acquired by OC Sport in 2004 and renamed The Transat.

Traditionally held every four years from Plymouth in the UK to the east coast of America, the 2008 edition, sponsored by Artemis Investment Management, was put at the heart of Plymouth's waterfront and attracted over 150,000 people to the race village.

LOÏCK PEYRON, FRENCH SAILING LEGEND, WINNER OF THE 2008 EDITION

Steeped in history

The first edition saw the pioneers of solo sailing take to the stormy North Atlantic in the yachts of their choice - it was certain Francis Chichester in a 40-foot yacht who won the very first edition in 40 days and 12 hours. In 2004, with OC Sport as organiser, a very different fleet raced across the 'pond' with French victor Michel Desjoyeaux finishing in a time of 8 days and 8 hours. The 13th edition of the race in 2008 delivered a media value in excess of €10m.
