For over a decade OC Sport has managed multiple IMOCA 60 race campaigns. The IMOCA 60 class is at the forefront of offshore and round the world racing, that culminates every four years with the legendary Vendée Globe – a non-stop, highly competitive, solo circumnavigation.
Success came early with Dame Ellen MacArthur’s outstanding result in the 2000/01 Vendée Globe – in her first attempt, backed by Kingfisher (Europe’s largest home improvement retailer), Ellen MacArthur finished in 2nd place and her endeavours touched millions of people. Her notoriety was such that she even finished 2nd to David Beckham in the 2001 BBC Sports Personality of the Year!
Following on from the early success of Ellen, OC Sport managed further IMOCA 60 campaigns for Samantha Davies, Nick Moloney and Brian Thompson, all backed by Skandia, one of the world’s leading independent investments companies, plus Sebastian Josse’s campaign supported by global telecommunications company BT, competing in many classic offshore races including the solo Route du Rhum, Transat Jacques Vabre, The Transat and the Vendée Globe.
